Talented Friends and Their Wonderful Works:
Rijay
I had the good fortune to meet and see the artwork of Rijay (a young artist from India) and his family when he and his parents were in the United States in the fall of 2003. They were visiting his sister, Jerin, who lives in Richardson. His artwork is amazing! I purchased a watercolor that is so outstanding, you feel as though you could take a single step and walk down the pathway in his village. Since that time, I've purchased 2 more of his watercolors as gifts. This young man has autism, but his outstanding feature is his true gift as an artist. As a frequenter of art galleries, I have rarely been as drawn into a piece of work as Rijay's art work does.
His sister, Jerin, has some of his pieces in the US to sell and also greeting cards with his artwork on them. Visit his site! I haven't seen any of his newer work, but I hear he's now into oils. Such a talented man!

Dave Spicer
Dave was one of my first teachers in the world of autism. He does his best to help those of us who are a bit more neurologically vanilla, better understand those who come in other neurological flavors.
Some of his analogies are found in TAP DANCING in the night. I am priviledged to call him a friend. You might have seen his picture, and that of his son as they sat on their motorcycle for the 2003 Newsweek articles on autism.
Currently (Dec 2003) Dave participates in TEACCH trainings, occasional conferences, and serves on the Board of the Autism Society of North Carolina. Through sharing his thoughts, he has provided links in understanding so that we all may better fit and work together.

Stephen Shore
Author of Beyond the Wall. Stephen is an adult friend who happens to have Asperger's Syndrome. He shares a wealth of information about AS and because of his education (completing a doctoral degree in Special Education) knows other types of challenges as well. It was a priviledge to have him write the Foreword to "What Do I Do About Hitting" by Martha Kate Downey.
